Well Sweet Studs took a small hiatus due to personal reasons. However, we are back in full force and with HUGE PLANS for our small business!
We are pleased to announce that we have joined an amazing group of people who rescue horses! As we all know because of the economy things have been especially hard for those of us who own horses due to the raise in prices in many of the supplies and feed needed for them. You also must know that the amazing group of people are my family (and I am including my neighbors in this as well since they help me train them)! My dad and I sat down and decided what would be best for us as a group and well for the horses who were being shoved off to overcrowded animal shelters or simply neglected. Needless to say we agreed to let our 10 acres of land in the Plymouth/Sorrento area be our holding/training/housing/transition station for these amazing and talented horses.
On Dec 26th, 2008 I was pleased to give my father's beloved Shameless aka Simbe some extra company on our "Horse Rescue Farm". Wes and Princess were hauled over that very same day by Tim Roach (Shameless' first farrier ever). They quickly adapted to their surroundings and though at first it was a major change for them. They quickly showed me that they were willing to help make things better for me and them as well. With lots of love and tender care they have become 2 amazing horses. I was told when I rescued them that Wes had been under saddle but it had been a while. And that Princess had never been under saddle and most importantly that she did not like to be on a lead nor be near Wes let alone other horses. Needless to say she proudly has proved her previous owners wrong! Every weekend for the past 6+ weekends we have worked with all three of them. With a 2-1 knock down record Princess has proven her ability to accept change, a saddle and her trainer Anthony.
Wes, my old fella he just keeps to himself. And when it comes to him being under saddle he proudly stands there and lets you do whatever you have to do and only occassionaly lets you know that he still somewhat has a mind of his own. Lucky for Anthony and myself we have had a few helpers to help train the horses. Jeremy, a good friend of The Fomby's (Anthony and Esther aka The trainer and his wonderful wife) has been Wes' rider and so far things have progressed with him very well. Taking a brief moment to send a big Congrats to Jeremy and his Wife Ashley on the birth of their baby! God Bless your family.
Shameless, well what can I say about him. He has become Anthony's Cadillac and dont tell Princess this but he is Anthony's favorite to ride. He says he rides smooth once he lets you on. It's a bit more difficult to get on Shameless since he once belonged to a little girl. However, she outgrew the 'I want a horse' phase fairly quickly once she realized how much work a horse can be. It's not easy when Shameless has been the sole attention of all the farm visitors for so long. He is our nosey one always has to be in everyones business. Not to mention he is extremely spoiled (I am working on not spoiliing them so much anymore). He was Wes' and Princess' tour guide of the farm upon arrival. And has become very possessive (in a good way) of his new buddies. For the first time I saw him and Wes trot off to find Princess while she was being trained the other day and that was a proud moment for me.
Although we know this will not be the easiest job in the world. We know that it will be a long process and we are determined to make these horses even more amazing than they already are. I will post some videos I have of them being trained as soon as I load them. Thank you to everyone who has worked with me and the horses it truly has been a blessing.
It's a Sweet Studs life...
